Analysis of a Solar Hybrid Electricity Generation System for a Rural Community in River State, Nigeria

This paper presents the technical and economic analysis of a solar–wind electricity generation system to meet power requirements rural community (Okorobo-Ile Town in Rivers State, Nigeria) using Renewable—energy Energy—efficiency Technology Screening (RETScreen) software. The entire load estimation region was classified into high class, middle lower class. Two annual export rates were considered: 0.1 USD/KWh 0.2 USD/KWh. results from proposed energy model comprising 600 kW PV 50 wind showed that with USD 870,000 initial cost 9600 O&M cost, value generated 902 MWh. simple payback 5.1 years net present 3,409,532 when used as rate instead 10.8 for an NPV 1,173,766 used. Thus, there is potential install wind–solar average weather conditions 4.27 kWh/m2/d solar irradiance 3.2 m/s speed at 10 m hub height rate.
